FAQs

What is a Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dental specialist who has trained as a general dentist and then continued their studies with a three year post-graduate University degree focused on periodontal disease, dental implants and tissue regeneration. They are registered with the Dental Board of Australia as a specialist.

Consultation and Treatment Cost

At The Palms Implants and Periodontics we strive to be transparent regarding all treatment costs. Upon contacting our team for an initial consultation they will verbally provide you with the exact cost for this first appointment. Your initial consultation will give your Periodontist the opportunity to accurately assess your case and they will then be able to provide you with an accurate estimate for any recommended treatment. If there are multiple treatment options available, then they will discuss these with you to ensure that you are able to make an informed decision regarding your care.

Health Fund Rebate Claims

If you have extras cover on your private health insurance you will most likely be able to claim a rebate from your health fund for dental treatment. The rebate amount may be dependent on such things as which health fund you are with, your level of cover or whether you have already made claims for similar treatment within a certain time period. We offer health fund rebate claims on the day of treatment for the majority of health funds. Click here to view which. You also have the option of paying for your treatment in full on the day and claiming manually if you forget your health fund membership card  or if your health fund is not supported.

Veteran Affairs Patients

At the Palms Implants and Periodontics we are committed to ensuring Veteran Affairs patients have access to specialist treatment.

What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease, also called periodontal disease, is a common and often painless condition affecting the gum, bone and ligament around a tooth. It occurs as a result of an inappropriate inflammatory response to the dental plaque which naturally forms on teeth. Untreated periodontal disease can lead to teeth becoming loose, gum abscesses and tooth loss.

Do you Offer Sedation?

During your initial consultation your Periodontist will discuss your treatment options. Depending on your individual needs and requirements your Periodontist may talk to you about having treatment done under twilight sedation (intravenous sedation) or general anaesthetic.
